Sandal Season

I am leaving today for (another) business trip to Boston. To make the trip affordable to the company, I am flying home late late Wednesday, even though my business will be done in early afternoon on Wednesday.  This leaves me with roughly 6 hours to kill in Boston.

It also appears, finally, to be almost spring, and my feet are totally unprepared.

This leads me to an ethical question. Pedicure on company time: wildly unprofessional or totally reasonable under the circumstances?

Hey, if you’re flying home at night (“your” time), then I think it’s perfectly reasonable to get a pedicure on “their” time. Tit for tat – it all evens out in the end.

  2. Jess says:

COMPLETELY reasonable. Can you do it not just on their time but also on their dime?

  3. My feet are also totally unprepared for sandal season.

I say you can’t help that you flight doesn’t leave until later, so therefore that time is yours to do with as you wish.

oh TOTALLY ethical. it’s not like your company expects you to force people into having additional meetings with you during those 6 hours, just so you’re “working”.. therefore the time is YOURS. to get a pedicure. :-)

  5. Green says:

Totally reasonable to do on their time, as long as it’s on your dime. For all they know, you’re thinking about work while you’re at a spa, and that counts as working.

  6. It’s going to be beautiful here…I say, do it :)

Totally unrelated…had I known earlier when you’d be here, we could’ve met up for lunch. I have the week off!

If you think you still could, email me!

  7. Oh ridiculous! OF COURSE you have the pedicure – it’s not like they’ve scheduled any work for you that you’ll be skipping. Enjoy it.

  8. I always bring something to read. I’ve gotten used to it, though I don’t really like being alone in a bar. Restaurants, though, are great places to catch up on reading or grading.

  9. Whoops – that needs to go under the other thread.
