Go-To Foods

These things are pretty much always in our house, and if they’re here, I will not starve, nor will I need to go to the grocery store to buy stuff for dinner. I’m not counting stuff that’s a given, like mustard and vinegar and peanut butter, or stuff that comes in cans that you crack open in a true Dinner Emergency. These are just the things I always have on hand for nibbling. The kind of food I eat almost exclusively when John’s away, when it seems silly to cook a full meal for just me.
- Heritage flakes
- Almonds
- Cat cookies
- Pickles
- Pretzel chips
- Reduced Fat Triscuits
- Baby carrots
- Spinach
- Berries (summer)
- Apples (fall and winter)
- Cedar’s hummus
- Fage Greek Yogurt
- Frozen peas
- Frozen chocolate chip cookie dough
- Coffee beans
- Brown rice cakes
- Skim milk
- Goat cheese
- String cheese
- Extra sharp cheddar cheese
- (Um, perhaps I should lay off the cheese?)
- Diet Coke
I think these things must be highly individualized: a personal stew of comfort foods, memories of childhood, and unique taste buds. John’s preferred list of go-to foods (were he to ever deign to actually go grocery shopping) would tend more towards the salami/brats/sliced turkey/sandwich bread schools of thought. He would forego the fruits and vegetables entirely, except perhaps for sauerkraut. There would definitely be more beer.
As dull as it must seem to many, I find this subject fascinating. Indulge me: what are your go-to foods?

I love this topic! Here are some of mine:
1) Baked Lays
2) String Cheese
3) Laughing cow cheese rounds
4) Ice cream
5) Frozen spinach tamales
6) Wheat thins
7) Bananas
Some of mine:
1) pretzels
2)popcorn
3)spinach
4)lemons
5)garlic
6)canned tomatoes
7)shallots
8)granola
-All fruits
-All vegies (except pumpkin)
-Toast
-Eggs
On the rare occasion I am not feeding the family dinner, I just steam an enormous pile of vegies. At all times I must have eggs in my house, they are a fast and yummy meal. Fruit is far and away my favourite snack. Just today I had kiwifruit, rockmelon (cantaloupe), tamarillo and maybe banana?
Yay! Your new site is GORGEOUS!

i’m a very buy-dinner-ingredients-on-the-way-home kind of gal, though, so everything else is pretty transient…
-Yogurt
-Cheese and NutThins (delicious rice crackers)
-Eggs
-Peanut butter
-Right now I’m obsessed with summer fruit – nectarines, plums, cherries
-Popcorn
We’re a simple household here!!
Frozen pizzas. And I am not ashamed.
Hmmm…our fridge is usually a tidgy stark but we almost always have:

–lemondade
–eggs and EggBeaters
–oranges
–grapes

–tomatoes
–bacon
My go-to foods for snacking or making as my dinner when Bryan’s not home or I’m depressed or had a bad day or tired or. . .well, you get the idea:
MAC AND CHEESE OMG
a bowl of mashed potatoes (instant, sorry, judge all you want) mixed with peas and gravy.
Pirate’s Booty but I must lay off
Luna Bars (I told Bryan he can’t eat any since they are just for women and he would in fact then grow a vagina)
Popcorn
Any variety of pasta with pasta sauce
Frozen pizza
Wow. I eat like ass. Huh.
